vineyard operations
Vineyard Operations
The Winemaker's Database Vineyard Module allows you to enter information about the various vineyards from which you obtain your grapes. It provides for the description of each piece of property as to soils, rootstocks, clones, etc. and also allows the entry of historical information of interest to the winemaker, such as material applications, vineyard operations, irrigation, rainfall and phenological data. The Vineyard Module is fully integrated with the bulk wine tracking features of WMDB, providing easy access to the history of the various vineyard blocks which are present in a particular blend as well as the ability to quickly and easily display the tanks in the winery which contain grapes from a particular block.
grape & bulk wine contracts
Grape & Bulk Wine Contracts
The Grape/Wine Contracts Module of the Winemaker's Database lets you manage contract information for both grape and bulk wine contracts. The design is very flexible and provides for unlimited payments, separate contract and payment entities, unlimited per-line adjustments for assessments, penalties, etc. and Brix pricing schemes which match the reporting standards for the California Crush Report. Contracts can be flat fee, per ton, per acre, per gallon or the metric equivalents. Upon receiving grapes into WMDB, the price per ton (or tonne) is calculated automatically based on Brix and contract rules.
Grape Receipt & Scale House
For wineries which would like to interface their weigh scales directly with the Winemaker's Database, the scale house module provides the ability to capture scale data directly into WMDB. We are type-certified by the California Department of Weights and Measures. With or without the direct scale interface, we can print weighmaster certificates. Grape receipt can be linked to the Grape and Bulk Wine Contracts module. On a custom basis we can provide for the advanced scheduling of grape deliveries. If desired, grape delivery tags can be pre-printed and given to growers to identify loads upon arrival at the winery.
Bulk Wine Operations
Managing information about your bulk wine inventory is at the core of WMDB. We provide powerful and flexible inquiry into blends, blend histories, weigh tags, barrels, analyses and more. You can trace a blend history back to its origins with a single mouse click. A powerful data correction function lets you correct entry errors, even if these were made months or even years ago. We offer single-user, multi-user and enterprise versions of our software. WMDB can be installed on your computer system, or you can choose to run the software as a service (SaaS), hosted in the Cloud.
Government Compliance
If your winery should ever be audited, the government agents will appreciate WMDB's ability to easily trace the history and justify the composition of your blends. The Winemaker's Database also quickly and automatically calculates the information for form 5120.17 (the 702) and, if you have the case goods module, provides a report calculating and justifying the tax payment reported on the Excise Tax Return. (These features are for U.S. clients only.)
Wine Analysis
The Winemaker's Database's analysis tracking features are a core feature. For both data entry and inquiry you can specify which analyses are present on the form and in what order. These settings are per-form and per-user. There is no concept of a set of "standard" or pre-defined analysis codes: all analyses are equal. You can inquire about analyses in one of three ways: the most recent values, the history for a blend and as a set of data in themselves, e.g. "How many VA's did we run last month?"
barrel tracking
Barrel Tracking
The Winemaker's Database provides for individual barrel tracking, where each barrel has an identity and history, as well as group tracking, where a blend's exposure to wood is recorded, but barrels are are not identified individually. When individual tracking is used, clients can enter barrel ID's via bar code scanning. Both types of tracking are supported in the core program, and both types of tracking can be active at the same time.
packaging materials
Packaging Materials
The Packaging Module of the Winemaker's Database manages bottling components. Individual packaging items are segregated by batches, and for U.S. clients the design provides for recording product contact items in a way that the information required by the Bioterrorism Act of 2001 can be quickly obtained. The software generates costed bills of materials by product, reverse bills of materials by product and picking lists. Taking into account a production schedule, quantities on hand, lead times and projected purchases, WMDB can generate a Projected Needs Report to help in planning future purchases of packaging items. Packaging materials are removed during the entry of WMDB bottling transactions, and they can also be removed for special purposes such as used for dummy bottles or marketing.
case goods inventory
Case Goods Inventory
The Case Goods Module of WMDB maintains an inventory of bottled wine. Inventory is maintained by winery location, sub-location, bond, bonded status and owner, if the client has the custom crush module. Case goods records are automatically generated when entering a bottling transaction. The software can generate a complete transaction history for each item, either by batch or combined.
bulk wine costing
Bulk Wine Costing
The Bulk Wine Costing module of the Winemaker's Database adds cost tracking features to the program. Additional fields are added to provide five cost "buckets" to detail the cost of each blend. Overhead, barrel and crush costs can be spread to the inventory. If the client chooses, the costs of dry goods can be applied to the blends as additions are made. The Inventory Cost Report and the Activity Summary Report provide for detailed analysis of the blend costs. The cost module also provides for the retroactive recalculation of blend costs, if the costs of grapes changes after the crushing transactions have already been entered.
